Our School

The B.E.S.T. Academy (Business, Engineering, Science, and Technology) is a public, all-male school in Atlanta Public Schools serving students in grades 6–12. The school’s official colors are blue and gold.

The academy was founded in 2007, with Curt R. Green serving as its first principal. Initially, the school’s name was chosen to reflect the focus on STEM-aligned pathways and to inspire academic excellence. In 2024, the school was renamed B.E.S.T. Academy at The Thomas W. Dortch Jr. Institute to honor the late Thomas W. Dortch Jr., a distinguished civic leader known for his lifelong work in mentoring young men, supporting community development, and promoting educational advancement.

Today, The B.E.S.T. Academy continues its mission to prepare students for future success by offering rigorous academics, leadership development, and opportunities in business, engineering, science, and technology.
