Advanced Placement (AP)

Program Overview

Advanced Placement (AP) allows high school students who are highly motivated and intellectually capable to participate in college-level curriculum. By participating in AP classes, students will be able to develop their critical thinking abilities; enhance their academic knowledge and skills; and open new doors to college and career possibilities.

Why Choose AP?

The College Board develops AP courses to reflect the first-year college courses in specific subjects. This allows students to gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter and an increased sense of academic engagement. Each year, the College Board administers a National AP Examination to all students completing an AP course. These exams give students the opportunity to assess what they have learned from the course.

Benefits of Participating in AP
There are several reasons why students should participate in AP:

1. AP gives you the ability to stand out on your college application.                                                                                                                                                                                      When you complete AP courses, it shows colleges that you are committed to academic excellence and willing to take on some of the most difficult courses offered. Also, when you perform well on the AP exam, you show colleges that you are truly prepared for college-level coursework.

2. Earn College Credit or Advanced Placement:
Many colleges and universities in the United States and more than 100 other countries award either college credit, Advanced Placement (AP) credit, or both for AP exam scores that meet certain criteria. Some benefits include reduced college expenses, the ability to bypass first-year courses, and early graduation.
