ESOL Program Overview

The ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) program in Atlanta Public Schools is dedicated to supporting the academic and language development needs of English Learners (ELs) and their families. This federally mandated program (Georgia School Law Code 1981, 20-2-156, 1985) serves eligible students in grades K–12.

The APS ESOL program emphasizes both academic and social language development, guided by the WIDA English Language Development Standards. Instruction integrates grade-level content to ensure all English Learners achieve success in school. The program also connects families with resources and promotes strong communication between school and home, encouraging parents to take an active role in their child’s education.
